Song of the Week - Primitiv: Taurus
![]() |
Artwork by Aakash Dwivedi |
The song here, Taurus, is NOT about the sun sign Taurus (you got that wrong :P). Talking about how the Earth has been pushed back into a primitive stage post apocalypse, the Doom Metal influenced track, also the band's debut single release, packs a punch. The hard hitting riffs, along with Nitin's brutal vocals, transports you to a time after the great holocaust (or what has been said and written about in those books people talk about :P).
We won't waste any more time describing the track, it's too awesome for a description. We hope your music speakers or headphones are ready, the track should be playing by the time you read this line:

Live: A Chat - Midhaven!
Midhaven are a bunch of young lads from Mumbai playing some quality Progressive Metal. Signed on to Universal Music and releasing their debut album - Spellbound, through them. We caught up with the band while they were on their North-East India tour for an improptu chat about their music, their album and a few other little secrets. Check it out!
Part one of the chat looks something like this -
The interview didn't end there, sadly. We had a part two of the same boring thing, with couple of questions and more outside noise interfering with the sound -
That was a little info on one of the rising bands in the country. Pretty bad for a first video attempt, don't you think? ;)
Midhaven - Spellboundis available across all major platforms. Indian fans can buy the album via this link.

Insurrection 3!
Sound-Awake is back with the third version of Insurrection,
their heavy metal themes series of events which made its debut on the 1st
of December 2013, at Ion Bar and Kitchen. With its sophomore edition
featuring
the likes of heavy metal stalwarts such as Neolithic Silence, Shepherd and Dark
Desolation raising many an eyebrow and acting as a wake-up call for the
denizens of metaldom in India to sharpen their swords, polish their armour and
prepare themselves for its upcoming editions, Insurrection has made its foray
into the dark malevolent world of heavy metal amidst thunderous applause and
cemented its position as one of the most sought after platforms for promoting
heavy metal in India.
‘To be quite frank, Sangeeth and I thought the event would
glacially pace itself towards grandiose and in our wildest dreams we never
thought that our product would hurtle itself towards country wide glory in less
than a year of its inception. I am not blowing my trumpet here, but I would
like to specify that Insurrection was conceptualized with thematic leanings
towards the more arcane and unforgiving forms of music and for an endeavour
specializing in such left-hand path art-forms to penetrate into the citadel of
extreme metal and cement its position there, is nothing short of phenomenal and
the journey from obscurity to identity has been extremely gratifying’ says
Preetham Rao.
This event boasts a line-up that features bands specializing
in extremely diverse genres. The poster (designed by Pramanik Studios) is out
and the line-up is given below
- Underside (Nepal) - Groove/Thrash metal
- Albatross (Mumbai) - Horror metal
- Threinody (Bangalore) - Old School Thrash metal
- Djinn and Miskatonic (Bangalore) - Doom metal
- Bad Taste (Bangalore) - Grind/Gore metal
- Grossty (Bangalore) - Grind/Gore metal
- Analyzed Consequences (Bangalore) - Djent/Progressive metal
- Final Surrender (Bangalore) - Progressive metalcore
Date: 15th of June, 2014.
Venue: Ion Bar and Kitchen.
Tickets: INR 450 at the gate and early
bird passes priced at INR 350 will be available with the bands and certain
outlets which will be announced in due course.
Art work and customized items
will be sold by a host of art vendors which again will be announced later.
Details and developments surrounding the gig will be posted on the event page.
